World Series trophy damaged by flying beer can at Red Sox parade

There is one way to turn this into a positive: was the flag representing the New York Yankees?

During Boston’s World Series parade on Wednesday, someone threw a beer can at one of the duck boats. Coincidentally, it was the one with the World Series trophy, and whoever tossed the beer probably didn’t intend to hit this particular target.

It was the World Series trophy.

And it broke.

The Commissioner’s Trophy, as the World Series trophy is officially known, has 30 flags, one representing each Major League Baseball team. A few of those flags were clearly damaged.

That’s not good, right? Unless, as I noted, it was the Yankees flag that was busted.

“The World Series trophy took a direct hit,” Anthony Everett told WCVB-TV, per NESN.com. “It got bent out of shape. They brought it back down into the truck and it looked like they fixed it pretty well, but there’s going to be some repairs involved with at least one of the World Series trophies.”
