Here is where Chiefs landed in these nine national NFL power rankings
There is no consensus on the Chiefs in the latest round of NFL power rankings. But there isn’t a great discrepancy.
They are ranked anywhere from second to fourth, and the Rams, Saints, Patriots and Chiefs are all in the top four of each of these rankings.
Here is where the 7-1 Chiefs stand:
Frank Schwab of Yahoo Sports had the Chiefs ranked second behind the Rams. He wrote in part: “The Chiefs gained 340 yards and scored 30 points Sunday. A good day for most mortal teams, but that was the Chiefs’ lowest yardage total of the season and tied for their second-lowest point total (the Broncos held them to 27 points in the first meeting).”
USA Today’s Nate Davis placed the Chiefs at No. 4 behind the Rams, Saints and Patriots. He wrote: “(N)ext two opponents (Browns, Cardinals) a combined 4-11-1. K.C. should keep treating fans to wins leading up to Mexico date with Rams.”
ESPN ranked the Chiefs No. 2 behind the Rams. Adam Teicher wrote in part: “The Chiefs have had trouble finishing some of their games. They’ve had to sweat at the end of wins against the Chargers, Steelers, 49ers and Broncos after having big leads. Not all of this is on their defense, which played well down the stretch in some of those games.”
SB Nation’s Rebecca Toback ranked the Chiefs No. 3 behind the Rams and Patriots. She wrote: “The Chiefs have only lost to the Patriots and somehow look to be getting even better as the weeks pass.”
Mark Maske of the Washington Post put the Chiefs fourth behind the Rams, Saints and Patriots. KC is one slot ahead of the Chargers. Maske wrote in part: “At this point, the surprise isn’t that Mahomes threw for 303 yards and four TDs; it was that he threw an interception.”
The Sports Illustrated Monday Morning Quarterback group put the Chiefs at No. 3 behind the Rams and Saints. It wrote: “Halfway through the season, the Chiefs have 290 points. They’re on pace to ... finish behind just the 2013 Broncos (606). Kansas City is the most fun show in the NFL since…?”
The Sporting News kept the Chiefs at No. 4. Vinnie Iyer wrote: “Patrick Mahomes continues his video game-like assault on the entire league, and Andy Reid is smart to also stay committed to giving Kareem Hunt enough touches.”
Bleacher Report also ranked the Chiefs at No. 4. It wrote: “Kansas City’s defense remains a concern — the Broncos piled up 411 total yards Sunday and made a game of it in the fourth quarter. But Kansas City’s offense has been nothing short of amazing, and the Chiefs just keep piling up victories.”
Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk had the Chiefs ranked fourth. He wrote: “They get the dysfunctional Browns at a time when they are much more dysfunctional than usual.”
