Texans’ DeAndre Hopkins: ‘I think we’ve got the best offense in the NFL’

The Houston Texans offense was firing on all cylinders in a 42-23 win Thursday night against the Dolphins.

Houston has won five straight games and receiver DeAndre Hopkins told reporters after the game that the Texans’ offense is the best in the league.

“We still left some stuff out there, a lot of stuff out there, man,” Hopkins said. “But like I said earlier in the offseason, I think we’ve got the best offense in the NFL. What we put up tonight against a pretty good defense, what we’ve shown in these past five games that we’ve won, I think we’re up there with the best of the best.”

Hopkins’ comment may turn some heads, largely because Thursday was just the second time this season that the Texans had scored more than 22 points in a game. Meanwhile, the Chiefs and Rams have been lighting up scoreboards.

Let’s take a closer look at some of the Texans’ key teams stats:

  • The Texans are now averaging 24.6 points per game, which ranks 17th in the NFL (the Chiefs are No. 1 at 37.1).

  • Houston is 14th in yards per game (379.0), well behind the Buccaneers (449.5), Rams (446.4) and Chiefs (437.4).

  • The Texans are 18th in passing yards per game (251.3)

  • They are 11th in rushing yards per game (123.0), one spot behind the Chiefs (124.3). The Texans are 20th in rushing yards per attempt (4.1).

Those numbers (obviously) don’t back up Hopkins’ claim. However, Houston’s offense has been better during its five-game winning streak, averaging 27.6 points per game.

This is all conjecture, of course, because the season isn’t over. But if the Texans keep scoring six touchdowns each game, then perhaps Hopkins will be proved right.
