For Pete's Sake

Actor Norm Macdonald is predicting a perfect season for the Chiefs (no joke)

Five down, 14 more to go for the Chiefs if they want to finish with a perfect record this season.

No one on the Chiefs is foolish enough to talk about perfect season, of course. But “Saturday Night Live” alum/comedian Norm Macdonald must have been impressed with what he saw in the Chiefs’ 30-14 win over the Jaguars on Sunday.

Because after that game, Macdonald tweeted: “You heard it here first. The Kansas City Chiefs will go undefeated!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

That’s a lot of exclamation points.

As noted, Macdonald is a comedian, so you might think his Twitter feed is full of jokes, thus rendering this thought about the Chiefs a gag. However, Macdonald’s other tweets on Sunday were about the Braves-Dodgers playoff game and the Cowboys-Texans football game. In fact, there don’t appear to be many (if any) jokes on his feed.

Macdonald, who has his own show on Netflix, didn’t explain his reasoning for the Chiefs support, but it’s possible that Patrick Mahomes, Tyreek Hill, Kareem Hunt, Travis Kelce and the offense made an impression.

Here is the tweet:

A perfect season would end, naturally, in a Super Bowl victory. That would be a 19-0 record for the season, which no team in NFL history has accomplished. The 2007 Patriots entered Super Bowl XLII with an 18-0 record, but they lost to the Giants 17-14.

The 1972 Dolphins won the Super Bowl and had a 17-0 record.

As you might expect, some people were skeptical that the Chiefs could match Macdonald’s prediction. Yeah, the Chiefs’ playoff woes are well known outside of Kansas City, too.

Some Chiefs fans, however, were thrilled for the support:
