Pranksters call in to Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy’s Big 12 teleconference
Last week, Oklahoma State football coach Mike Gundy made it clear to media members: ask any players about receiver Jalen McCleskey, who had decided to transfer, and Gundy would ban player interviews for the season.
During Monday’s Big 12 coaches teleconference, some faux reporters got a bit of revenge on Gundy.
The first three callers were all from bogus media outlets and one “reporter” apparently is a fan of the band Phish, whose lead singer is Trey Anastasio.
So it wasn’t really Trey Anastasio of the Stillwater Tribune (not a real newspaper) who said: “Hey Mike, good morning to you, man. I know it’s been kind of a frustrating seven days or so, which I don’t really think is right, because you all played a heck of a game on Saturday. It seems like a lot of these reporters don’t have any respect for your unwarranted petulance and I, for one, can’t believe they’d have the nerve to do their jobs and not kowtow to your empty threats. I guess what I’m really saying is: It’s 2018. Do we really even need freedom of press anymore?”
A confused Gundy responded: “I’m not sure what you’re asking,”
That was the last of the three “fraudulent calls,” as GoPowercat.com writer Riley Gates noted.
Yahoo Sports said Gundy responded: “It’s OK. We have a lot of fraudulent people in the world.”
You can hear the fake calls in the video above.
