Soooo ... did everyone grab the remote and check another channel at the same time?
During the second quarter of Super Bowl LII, there was a break in the action of the game between the Eagles and the Patriots and NBC cut to commercial.
One problem: no commercial played. It was just a black screen. People freaked out that they had lost television coverage.
But, no. After 30 seconds of nothing, the game coverage returned.
The Royals’ Class AAA team in Omaha was among those making jokes.

Everyone should buy whatever product purchased a $5 million dollar 30 second ad and played a black screen the entire time. That's what you call avant garde.

Best Super Bowl commercial so far has been “empty black screen”

Best commercial of the day so far is the screen going black for five seconds so you can see your sad reflection in the TV

That black screen commercial was beautiful. Only the intellectuals will be able to comprehend the deep and thought provoking message.

I was hoping it was going to be a provocative ad to get our attention at the end of 20 seconds of dead air. Missed opportunity. #SuperBowl #BrandBowl52 https://t.co/bTUQ50H39u
