For Pete's Sake

Mizzou student, tennis star were at Super Bowl, talked about their first date

Things have come full circle for Missouri student John Goehrke.

A year ago, he noticed a tweet from tennis player Genie Bouchard about the Falcons’ 28-3 lead in Super Bowl LI and asked if she’d go on a date with him if the Patriots rallied and won. She said yes, New England did its part and it’s gone beyond one date as Goehrke regularly pops up on Bouchard’s social-media feeds.

In fact, NFL Canada sent the two to Super Bowl LII, and if they are not a couple, then Goehrke and Bouchard are really close friends.

On Saturday night, they went to the NFL awards show in Minneapolis, then they hosted a Twitter Q&A on NFL Canada’s feed and will be heading to watch the Patriots and Eagles in Super Bowl LII on Sunday.

When they got to Minneapolis on Saturday, there was a slight snag, which Bouchard shared on her Instagram story:

They eventually got a ride. Bouchard shared a bunch more videos and photos on her Instagram story. Here are a couple and note the hearts around her head in the second video:

Here are a couple of photos from her Twitter feed:

Goehrke tweeted a photo from the NFL awards ceremony:

On Sunday morning, the couple answered Twitter questions, including ones about last year’s bet that started this crazy story:

Goehrke also confirmed that he is still a student at Mizzou and a marketing major:

And, this is no shocker, but they were asked if they are dating. Their answer may surprise you:

That’s pretty sneaky.

You can see more of their answers here.

At the Super Bowl, they both wore Patriots jerseys. Goehrke was No. 3 and Bouchard was No. 28. That is a not-to-subtle nod to the Falcons blowing a 28-3 lead.
