West Virginia fans were furious after loss to Kansas
Down 16 at West Virginia? No problem.
Kansas made its comeback look relatively easy as the Jayhawks won 71-66 in Morgantown, W.Va., and are now all alone atop the Big 12.
Mountaineers fans were prepared to party after 20 minutes, but their mood obviously soured after the KU rally.
Monday loss came after West Virginia was beaten at Texas Tech on Saturday. There were high expectations for a special season, but that has come crashing down.
Here is what Mountaineer fans were saying after the Jayhawks’ win:
West Virginia as a state deserves an apology from every single player.

At some point WVU football and basketball needs to turn the corner before I die. I love WVU but man if there was a poster child for how not to finish and sieze the moment, its going to be the Mountaineers. #smfh

WVU in peak form, get to #2 in the nation and blow two straight big games.
— Matthew Steele (@Matthew_Steele_) January 16, 2018
The Texas A&M game should have been a sign of things to come. Use to be, when they would blow big leads, I would curse and throw stuff at the . Now, I just sit quietly and smh.

I'm die hard WVU all the way, and will be my whole life but let's be honest... are any of you guys surprised by @WVUhoops ? This happens all the time. Taking the L when we should get the W and us all sitting here asking ourselves why we're honestly surprised.

Such a tough one to lose. We had it, we're looking good and offense goes cold as always. This picture best represents life as a WVU Bball fan for the last 3 yrs. pic.twitter.com/K1N9iIwj70

We blow every lead. It's embarrassing. Huggs better apologize for this. It's EVERY GAME! The fanbase deserves an apology https://t.co/IFzfBKyzuB
— Tucker Via (@tuckervia3) January 16, 2018
Huggs better put this one on him. He is the reason #WVU lost this game.
— Johnny Toler (@jtoler20) January 16, 2018
You guys gotta start proving yourselves to the great state of West Virginia.
— TRAVIS (@tr4v13) January 16, 2018
The mountaineers we all know and love showed up again tonight. How do you blow a 16 point lead in a huge game like that to Kansas. Well all starts with turnovers and no defense. Like Huggs said the team isn’t comfortable being ranked that high, and that is a disappointment.

Damn I thought the mountaineers wanted to do something this year

Terrible effort, no killer instinct, maybe guard a 3 point shooter at some point would work in the future
— GoofyFAL (@wvu185) January 16, 2018
Wvu man always breaking my heart

For those West Virginia fans who also root for Pittsburgh professional teams, it has been a lousy few days.
Two Mountaineer losses, the Steelers were upset at home by the Jaguars, and the Pirates traded two of their best players.
Let's get this straight: Saturday, Pirates trade their best starting pitcher in 15 years. Sunday, Steelers have the most devastating loss of the Tomlin Era. Monday, Pirates trade the face of the franchise AND WVU blows a 16 point lead at home.

Hope for humanity = nonexistent
Worst 72 hour stretch of sports I can ever remember. WVU gags Saturday, Steelers gag Sunday, Pirates throw in the towel for the next decade over the weekend and WVU gags again yesterday. Nightmarish.
— Ryan Smyth (@RyanSmyth7) January 16, 2018
Probably the worst week of being a sports fan I've ever experienced in my life. Steelers lose in the playoffs. The Pirates get rid of Cole and McCutchen. Then wvu blows a 15 point lead to Kansas at home...
