Chiefs tried this trick play in a key situation on Sunday
The Chiefs’ offense looked much, much better on Sunday.
Alex Smith threw four touchdown passes, and the Chiefs scored 31 points in a loss to the Jets.
But there was one baffling moment.
The Chiefs trailed 27-24 late in the third quarter of Sunday’s game against the Jets in East Rutherford, N.J., when they went to its bag of tricks.
Facing a third and less than 1, the Chiefs tried a pass to offensive lineman Cameron Erving, who was an eligible receiver.
It did not go well.
Chiefs fans were not happy about the play call.

3rd trick play is ridiculous. My guess is that Nagy was overruled by Reid. If Nagy called that play, then there is no hope for a prolonged change.#Chiefs

Lets try more throws to Cam Irving #FIREANDYREID

When will the @Chiefs learn from their mistake of running a trick play? I can recall three right away #Confused #ComeOnMan #Seriously

Why go for a trick play on 3rd and 1 in the middle of the field? I don't get it. #Chiefs
