Drummer for Red Hot Chili Peppers rocked with the KU band at Champions Classic
The KU basketball team has another celebrity fan: Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith.
During the Jayhawks’ 65-61 win over Kentucky in Chicago on Tuesday, Smith took over the drum kit for the KU band’s version of “Fire” at the United Center.
Smith, who was wearing a Kansas shirt and hat, was into it.
I’m not sure if there is a KU connection for Smith, was born in Minnesota and grew up Michigan. However, he is a Wolverines fan and earlier this year trolled Ohio State fans by signing the Michigan fight song during a Red Hot Chili Peppers concert in Columbus, Ohio.
This impromptu appearance was approved by fans:
Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers drumming with the KU band during a timeout. Very cool.
