Steve Balboni has a special message for Royals’ record holder, Mike Moustakas

If any Royals fans wondered if Steve Balboni was upset that Mike Moustakas displaced him as the team’s single-season home-run leader, that was put to rest quickly.

The Royals tweeted a video message from Balboni minutes after Moustakas hit his 37th home run on Wednesday night in Toronto.

That set the Royals’ record for most home runs in a season, breaking a tie with Balboni, who hit 36 in 1985.

“I’d like to congratulate Mike Moustakas on breaking my home-run record,” Balboni said. “I had a nice run, I’m surprised it lasted as long as it did. I’d like to wish him luck the rest of the season and for the rest of his career.”
