It’s not official (yet), but there are multiple reports that the NFL is poised to hire its first female referee (some women did work as replacement refs during the 2012 strike).
That shouldn’t upset anyone, right?
Sen’Derrick Marks of the Jacksonville Jaguars told TMZ Sports that “For women, it’s great.”

However, Marks thinks it’s all a publicity stunt, just like when the Rams drafted former Mizzou star Michael Sam.
“It’s just like the Michael Sam situation — if he wasn’t gay, he would’ve gone undrafted,” Marks said. “Instead the league drafts him because I think they are trying to monopolize on every aspect of the world ... the same thing with hiring a female ref.”
Someone must have forgotten to mention to Marks (who played at Auburn) that Sam was the SEC defensive player of the year as a senior. That’s why the Rams drafted him in the seventh round a year ago.
