Chiefs’ win over Patriots spelled disaster for fans in one specific pool
One of the fun ways that NFL fans torture themselves, er, enhance their love of football is by joining a survivor pool.*
*This is also known as an eliminator pool
The concept is simple. Each person in a group (sometimes the number can reach more than a thousand) plunks down $20, $50, $100 or more, and each week picks an NFL team they think will win. Once a person has picked a team, they can’t use them again, so strategy plays a big part in the decision-making.
Apparently, quite a few fans thought they’d kick off the season with an easy win: the Patriots over the Chiefs.
However, the Chiefs thumped New England 42-27 and ruined quite a few people’s pool. Take a look at what some fans shared on social media:
About 40 people in my NFL survivor pool picked the Patriots and are eliminated for the year before the 1st Sunday.
