Watch Mike Moustakas’ 36th homer that tied Royals record
Royals third baseman Mike Moustakas ended his longest streak without a home run this season with an historic blast in Friday’s game in Minnesota.
Moustakas, who had not hit a homer in 12 games dating to Aug. 15 at Oakland, clubbed his 36th of the season against Twins starter Dillon Gee in the third inning.
That, as nearly every KC fan knows, tied the Royals’ single-season record set by Steve Balboni in 1985. Balboni’s 36th homer came on Oct. 3 of that season. Moustakas’ came much earlier: Sept. 1.
According to Home Run Tracker, Moustakas’ shot went 368 feet and had a launch angle of 20 degrees. The ball left the bat at 108 mph.
