The Salvy Splash returned, albeit in miniature form
It had been 26 days since the last Salvy Splash, so even a trimmed-down version probably was welcomed by Royals fans.
On Aug. 3, Royals catcher Salvador Perez dumped a Gatorade cooler full of water on teammate Brandon Moss after the Royals’ 6-4 win against the Seattle Mariners. The next day, he left a game early because of a strained intercostal muscle and was placed on the 10-day disabled list on Aug. 6.
Perez was activated from the disabled list on Aug. 22, but didn’t splash a teammate after back-to-back wins against the Rockies. Then came a five-game losing streak.
That ended Tuesday with the Royals’ 6-2 win over the Rays at Kauffman Stadium. First baseman Eric Hosmer had the big hit — a three-run homer. Hosmer was talking with Joel Goldberg of Fox Sports Kansas City when Perez sneaked up from behind — with four cups of water.
A smaller Salvy Splash to be certain, but Hosmer seemed happy to get doused.
Here is the video from Fox Sports Kansas City:
