First, his nickname is “The Cuban Missile Crisis,” which is just plain awesome. Second, he’s from Kansas City.
Well, the Kansas City native sent waves through the mixed-martial arts scene when he competed in “Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series” in Las Vegas. Marquez, 27, took out Phil Hawes with a devastating kick to the head.

“I just knew that he was just going to keep going and going that if I would have given it a second and weather the storm he’d leave an opening, which he did,” Marquez told UFC reporter Laura Sanko after the fight.
The knockout earned Marquez a four-fight contract with UFC.
