Going undercover, Hall of Famer Greg Maddux pranks Cubs’ Kris Bryant

It’s safe to assume that Cubs star third baseman Kris Bryant, the reigning National League MVP, doesn’t need many batting tips, but that didn’t stop Hall of Famer Greg Maddux from offering a few.

But Bryant didn’t know it was Maddux at the time.

In a video for the energy drink Red Bull, Maddux went undercover as a sound man for a commercial that Bryant thought was being filmed. While Bryant took batting practice, Maddux offered some tips.

“Try and hit it off the barrel. It’ll sound really good,” Maddux said.

Bryant responded: “That’s the goal.”

Then the pitcher took a phone call and said he had to leave, so Maddux took over. Bryant was hesitant at first, then impressed.

“This sound guy’s got a good curveball,” Bryant said. “What is this?”
