Alex Smith’s dodgeball reputation takes a hit after Pro Bowl Skills Showdown
You know that Patches O’Houlihan* would have something unflattering to say about some of the performances by NFL players in Thursday’s dodgeball competition.
*For the unfamiliar, Patches was the character played by Rip Torn in the movie “Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story”
The dodgeball game was part of the Pro Bowl Skills Showdown in Orlando, Fla., and the whole thing was pretty fun to watch.
However, Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith didn’t show the best form in this one throw during the dodgeball game:

@PeteCollopy @DanHanzus We got a great glimpse into Alex Smith's dodgeball game. That alone was worth it.

There were quite a few comments like that and more that were not suitable for our readers.
People will pile on Smith, but the goal is to throw the ball at an opponent’s legs (and on the plus side, Smith did catch a ball thrown his way), so I think it just slipped and he’s probably not used to throwing sidearm.
And no one has noted that Smith was the quarterback during the receivers’ “Best Hands” competition, and the AFC won that particular game. You can say it was all about the receivers, but Smith had to get the balls in catchable spots and quickly.
