Catching Kelce episode 2 recap: Travis Kelce becomes Richard Simmons?!?
NOTE: Hey, my friend Melissa Graham, the former Stargazing star, has agreed to watch and recap “Catching Kelce” each week for me.
The second installment of “Catching Kelce” begins in the best way possible: with Kansas City barbecue. Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce arrives at the Los Angeles mansion of his love interests in a florescent Hawaiian shirt to tell the women that they’ll be dining on “authentic Kansas City barbecue” while they get to know each other poolside.
What he doesn’t tell them is that at the end of the party, he’ll select one girl to go on a date with him.
Throughout the day, a fierce game of cornhole is played, relationship dealbreakers are discussed and Kelce is asked about his last relationship.
“It was the last two years of college,” Kelce said. “I got played like a fiddle.”
At the end of the party, Kelce picks Maya from Kentucky as his date, with one twist: She has to select five other girls to go with her. Her picks: Lexi from Georgia, Veronica from New Jersey, Lauren from Missouri, Jenny from Oregon and Lolo from Washington.
“I decided to bring the girls that I think are weak,” Maya said.
Shots. Fired.
A date with Kelce is no regular affair, however. The girls find out they’ll be joining him in a workout video for 24 Hour Fitness, which will air in all club locations to millions of viewers. Before they get started, Kelce has one more surprise.
“Hey ladies, who wants to dance?” he asks, as he emerges in a hot pink tank top, short shorts and a curly wig reminiscent of Richard Simmons.
“Nothing gets anyone going better than Richard,” Kelce said.

He then changes to a more serious outfit for the actual video shoot, which features a mix of pilates and yoga. After the shoot, he pulls the girls aside one-by-one to get to know them better.
Lauren from Missouri got her one-on-one time on the basketball court, where Kelce tells her he’ll grant her a kiss if she scores on him. Lauren succeeds, but what she doesn’t know if that the other contestants are watching as the kiss goes down.
“My heart is beating so fast right now,” Lauren said. “I feel like I’m going to throw up.”
Jenny from Oregon uses her time to deliver a note from the controversial Anika, who writes Kelce: “ I feel surrounded by the howling mad hyennas in this demented animal asylum. I desperately wish I could escape here to spend more time with you one-on-one.”
Side note: anyone who’s lived with a house full of women could probably relate.
Although the note makes makes Kelce smile, it doesn’t amuse Maya.
“At this point, I’m really annoyed,” Maya said. “I’m trying to keep my composure, but I’m pissed.”
After his alone time with each contestant, Kelce chooses Veronica from New Jersey to go on a VIP date to Chef Eric Greenspan’s “secret” restaurant Mare. The date goes swimmingly, and ends with a bouquet of flowers and a note with a quote straight out of “Billy Madison.”
Meanwhile, at the house, Maya takes her date frustrations out on Anika and her infamous note.
“It’s a shame that you have to be that desperate,” Maya told her.
Later, Kelce delivers his “two-minute warning,” where he asks Jenny, Jamie, Lolo, Veronica, Jessica and Anika over for an elimination.
This week’s cuts: Jenny from Oregon, Jessica from Nevada and Lolo from Washington.
“He sent home the treat and kept the tricks,” Lolo said.
Kelce decided to keep Anika, though he admitted she was “out there.”
Coming next week: a football competition, a contesant admits to dating Fabio, and Kelce dons a daring red plaid suit.
