Las Vegas paid tribute to former college basketball coach Jerry Tarkanian, who died on Feb. 11.

Tarkanian put UNLV on the map, so the lights on the Las Vegas strip were dimmed for three minutes in his honor.

According to ESPN, the lights were dimmed just eight times previously: for the deaths of John F. Kennedy, Sammy Davis Jr., Dean Martin, George Burns, Frank Sinatra and Ronald Reagan, as well as after the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001 and Earth Hour in 2009.
