Sporting KC to face Houston in U.S. Open Cup fifth round

A day after it secured an overtime victory to begin its U.S. Open Cup title defense, Sporting Kansas City learned its next opponent in the tournament.

The club will travel to face the Houston Dynamo in the fifth round of the Open Cup. The match will take place either June 28 or June 29 at BBVA Compass Stadium, with the exact date and kickoff time to be determined.

If Sporting KC advances past the Dynamo, it will host the quarterfinals of the tournament against the winner of Colorado and FC Dallas.

Sporting KC advanced to the fifth round Wednesday with a 2-1 overtime win against Minnesota United FC. Diego Rubio scored the overtime game-winner.
