Sporting Kansas City was drawn into a CONCACAF Champions League group Monday that also included fellow MLS side Vancouver and Central FC of Trinidad and Tobago. The draw took place Monday night in Miami Beach, Fla.

The three-team Group C will begin its round-robin, home-and-away format in August. The schedule will be released later this summer. The winners of each of the eight groups will advance to knockout bracket in the competition, slated for 2017.

Sporting KC qualified for the CCL competition by winning the U.S. Open Cup last year. It has played in the initial round of the tournament three times.

Vancouver qualified for the tournament when it won the Canadian Championship. Sporting KC is 1-0-1 against Vancouver this season.

Central FC, founded in 2012, has won two straight Caribbean Football Union Club Championships.
