Matt Besler, Graham Zusi voted to third MLS All-Star Game
Matt Besler and Graham Zusi are headed back to the Major League Soccer All-Star Game.
The Sporting Kansas City teammates were named to the MLS All-Star roster Wednesday as part of the fan vote — the All-Star Fan XI — and will represent the MLS when it faces Bayern Munich in Portland on Aug. 6.
It marks the third All-Star selection for both players, including the third straight for Zusi.
"It is always nice to be recognized by the fans," Zusi said in a release. "With the tremendous support we get in Kansas City, the great crowds we see on the road in MLS and the number of Americans who cheered from home or traveled to Brazil for the World Cup, this is truly a great time for soccer in this country."
Besler and Zusi appeared in nine matches for the U.S. men's national team this year — more than any other players — and played in all four World Cup matches. Besler became the first Kansas native to play in the World Cup.
"It's an honor to be recognized by the fans," Besler said in a release. "As always, I'm looking forward to representing my Sporting Kansas City teammates and showcasing MLS. I'm excited to travel to Portland and play against Bayern Munich."
Goalkeeper Nick Rimando (Real Salt Lake); defenders Omar Gonzalez (L.A. Galaxy) and DeAndre Yedlin (Seattle); midfielders Kyle Beckerman (Real Salt Lake), Michael Bradley (Toronto FC) and Clint Dempsey (Seattle); and forwards Landon Donovan (L.A. Galaxy), Theirry Henry (New York) and Obafemi Martins (Seattle) were also voted to the game.
The All-Star Game will start at 8:30 p.m. on Aug. 6. Portland coach Caleb Porter will lead the MLS team against the 23-time German Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.
A total of 32 players will be named All-Stars, with 20 players chosen to participate in the match.
