Sporting KC releases Alex Martinez, recalls Mikey Lopez from loan
Sporting Kansas City announced the release of midfielder Alex Martinez on Monday. In a corresponding move, the club recalled midfielder Mikey Lopez from his loan to the OKC Energy FC.
Martinez started three matches for Sporting KC and scored the first professional goal of his career in a June 18 win against Minnesota United in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. Sporting KC selected Martinez in the third round of the 2014 MLS SuperDraft.
Lopez, 21, has never appeared in an MLS match.
