Sporting Kansas City will open 2016 season at Seattle

On the first Sunday in March, Sporting Kansas City will launch its 2016 season on the road against the Seattle Sounders FC in a nationally televised match on Fox Sports 1 at CenturyLink Field.

The two teams will square off on March 6, the second time in three years that Sporting Kansas City has kicked off its season in Seattle. Major League Soccer announced the first two weeks of its 2016 schedule on Tuesday.

Sporting Kansas City’s first home match is scheduled for March 12 against Vancouver Whitecaps FC at Children’s Mercy Park.

On March 6, all 20 MLS teams will play their season openers and three matches will be televised nationally. In addition to the Sporting KC at Seattle match, two other matches will be broadcast: Portland Timbers at Columbus Crew at 3:30 p.m. in a rematch of the 2015 MLS Cup, and D.C. United at LA Galaxy at 9 p.m.

Major League Soccer will announce its full 2016 regular season schedule on Jan. 7.

Sporting Kansas City, one of 10 MLS charter members, is 12-5-3 in regular-season openers.
