Sporting Club to announce plans Thursday for United Soccer League franchise
Sporting Club will unveil plans Thursday for a United Soccer League team based in Kansas City.
The formal announcement will take place at 5:45 p.m. Thursday outside the Applause Club at Starlight Theatre. The event is open to the public.
The Kansas City team will be the 30th franchise in USL, which has emerged as a minor leagues, of sorts, for Major League Soccer. The two leagues have partnered since 2013. Sporting Kansas City has held partnerships with Orlando City SC and OKC Energy FC in Oklahoma.
Kansas City’s addition likely will play out of Swope Soccer Village, Sporting KC’s training facility, while serving as a development team for the MLS team, also owned by Sporting Club.
