Sporting KC backup goalkeeper injures ankle; Jon Kempin recalled to roster

Sporting Kansas City backup goalkeeper Andy Gruenebaum suffered a right ankle sprain in practice and is questionable for Saturday’s home match against Real Salt Lake.

In a corresponding move, the club recalled keeper Jon Kempin, who was on loan to OKC Energy FC.

Kempin, 20, attended Blue Valley North High School.

In a rematch of last season’s MLS Cup championship, Sporting KC will face Real Salt Lake at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Sporting Park.
