Sporting KC to face Portland
It’s merely a coincidence that only two days after Chance Myers re-signed with Sporting Kansas City, the club will face the Portland Timbers in a preseason match. But it is certainly a fitting one.
Myers scored two goals against the Timbers last April — the only two goals of his six-year Major League Soccer career — though Portland escaped Sporting Park with a 3-2 victory. It was the two teams’ only MLS regular season meeting in 2013.
Myers’ return to Sporting KC training camp in Tucson, Ariz., in that case, comes just in time.
Sporting KC will play Portland at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Kino Sports Complex in Tucson. The match will be streamed live on SportingKC.com and MLSsoccer.com.
Portland represents the only MLS opponent on Sporting KC’s three-match schedule in Tucson. Sporting KC won its exhibition opener Tuesday, a 1-0 victory against FC Tucson of the Premier Development League. C.J. Sapong scored in the 20th minute.
The club will conclude its exhibition schedule in Tucson with a match Friday against Indy Eleven of the North American Soccer League.
