Bearcats, Gorillas bring football series back to KC. Here’s where they’ll play

Once an annual event in Kansas City, the Northwest Missouri State-Pittsburg State football is returning to the metro area.

This season, it will be played at Children’s Mercy Park, the home of the Sporting KC Major League Soccer club in Kansas City, Kansas.

The Bearcats and Gorillas will meet on Nov. 15.

From 2002-13 and again in 2019, the MIAA powers met in the Fall Classic at Arrowhead Stadium. The first game, in 2002, drew more than 26,000 fans, and no game in the neutral-site series attracted fewer than 14,000.

Children’s Mercy Park also was home to the NCAA Division II championship game from 2014-17, with the Bearcats winning two national titles during that span.

Last season, Kansas played two home games in the soccer stadium while the Jayhawks on-campus stadium was undergoing renovations. Kansas State played its spring football game at Children’s Mercy Park in 2015.

Pitt State finished 8-3 last season, Northwest Missouri 6-5.
