Sporting Kansas City midfielder Roger Espinoza will be suspended from Saturday’s match in Toronto, a punishment MLS levied Wednesday as a result of a play that occurred in last weekend’s 1-1 draw with Houston.

In the 67th minute Saturday, Espinoza’s cleat struck Houston keeper Tyler Deric in the shin as the two chased down a bouncing ball near the top of the penalty box. Deric initially waved to his sideline to be subbed out of the match, but he was able to stay in the game.

Espinoza was attempting to outrun Houston defender David Horst for the ball, but Deric came off his line and beat Espinoza to the play.

Sporting KC forward Dom Dwyer is also suspended for the match Saturday, because of yellow card accumulation. Dwyer picked up a yellow card against Houston after an altercation with Deric.
