Sporting KC’s Matt Besler, Graham Zusi added to U.S. national team roster for international friendly
Sporting Kansas City’s Matt Besler and Graham Zusi were added to the United States men’s national team roster Saturday in advance of Tuesday’s friendly against Honduras.
It will mark their first match with the national team since they took part in the World Cup over the summer. They have each made nine appearances for their home country in 2014.
“As always, I am very excited to represent my country. It’s always an honor when you get an opportunity,” Besler said in a news release. “I’m looking forward to playing with the guys again and also meeting some of the new guys who have been called in.”
Besler and Zusi will compete against a Sporting KC teammate in the match. Midfielder Jorge Claros plays for Honduras.
Tuesday will be the U.S. team’s final home game of the year.
“I’m thrilled that I have the chance to be a part of it,” Zusi said. “Being back in our nation’s colors is an incredible honor for me personally. There are locker room bragging rights to be won against Jorge and Honduras.”
The U.S. will close out its calendar year with a match in Ireland on Nov. 18.
Sporting KC clinched its fourth consecutive berth in the postseason Friday with a 2-0 home victory against Chicago.
