Sporting hires assistant technical director and a scout

Sporting Kansas City made two additions to its technical staff Friday.

Mike Jacobs, a former assistant coach at Duke, has been hired as an assistant technical director for Sporting KC. Jorge Alvial has joined the staff as the director of scouting after nine years working as a scout for Chelsea FC.

In 2004, Jacobs was named the national assistant coach of the year. He currently serves as the president of the National Soccer Coaches of America Association.

“Mike knows the landscape of youth soccer in the United States and has experience both at the collegiate and USL (United Soccer Level) level,” Sporting KC coach Peter Vermes said in a news release. “Jorge has an extensive scouting network that will serve us greatly as we look to improve our team both now and in the future. Both of these additions will help immensely as we look to vertically integrate our club from the academy level to the senior team.”
