The Swope Park Rangers’ third season will feature a third new coach.

After leading the Rangers to an appearance in the USL Cup Final, Nikola Popovic and the team have agreed to part ways.

Popovic finished his only season with the Rangers, the USL affiliate for Sporting Kansas City, with a 17-8-7 record. He was the assistant coach during the club’s inaugural season in 2016, serving under Marc Dos Santos, who also left after one season.

“We appreciate Nikola’s service over the last two years,” Sporting KC coach Peter Vermes said in a statement. “At this club, we are extremely supportive of people who are hungry and have big ambitions.

“If we can assist with those things, we are always going to do that. Nikola is embarking on some other endeavors, and we back him 100 percent.”
