Sporting KC’s Matt Besler called up to U.S. national team for match against Mexico
Matt Besler is rejoining the United States men’s national team.
Besler, the captain of Sporting Kansas City, was announced Sunday as a member of the U.S. roster for Wednesday’s match against rival Mexico, which will be played at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Alamodome in San Antonio. The match has been sold out.
“It’s always an honor to represent my country, and games against Mexico definitely carry extra meaning for our team,” Besler said. “This will be a good test for us as we continue to prepare to defend our Gold Cup title.”
Besler has made 25 international appearances with the U.S. team. He represented his country in its 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup championship and its appearance in the 2014 World Cup.
When U.S. and Mexico last met, on April 2, 2014, they played to a 2-2 draw in Glendale, Ariz.
