Sporting KC’s match in Houston postponed because of Hurricane Harvey
Sporting Kansas City’s trip to Houston this weekend has been postponed because of the threat of Hurricane Harvey hitting Texas.
The match, originally scheduled for Saturday evening, will now be played Oct. 11 in Houston, the two teams announced.
Even if the path of the hurricane does not directly hit Houston, the city is expected to receive a significant amount of rain over the weekend and early next week.
Sporting KC will now play two of its final three MLS matches against Houston, one of its top competitors for the Western Conference regular season title. Four days after the makeup date, it will host Houston at Children’s Mercy Park before closing out the schedule in Real Salt Lake.
It is the third Sporting KC match in franchise history to be postponed.
Sporting KC, which trails Western Conference leader Seattle by one point, will enjoy an extended break before making a trip to Yankee Stadium on Sept. 6 to face New York City FC.
