FC Kansas City travels to Boston in search of season’s first victory
FC Kansas City is sticking to its game plan — even if the goals aren’t coming just yet.
Through five matches, the club has managed to score only twice, and it still is searching for its first victory of the season as it heads to Boston for a match against the Breakers at 5:30 p.m. Central Sunday.
Coach Vlatko Andonovski is opting for patience.
“I don’t think the style of play or the system is the problem,” he said. “In the end, we still are creating enough opportunities to score at least one or two goals. I feel we’ve been unlucky, and goalkeepers have done a great job against us.”
The latter has some credibility. After FC Kansas City’s scoreless draw with Chicago last week, Red Stars goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher was named the National Women’s Soccer League player of the week.
But FC Kansas City is still searching for ways to find more quality shots over the course of a match.
“One thing we need to do a better job of is entering the final third of the field a little more often,” Andonovski said. “That will allow us to find ourselves in more dangerous positions.”
FC Kansas City, 0-3-2, is the second-lowest scoring team in the 10-team league, and it’s one of only two teams without a victory. The opponent Sunday has yet to find the back of the net in five matches. The Breakers are 0-5-0.
