FC Kansas City’s Becky Sauerbrunn, Heather O’Reilly called into U.S. national team camp
FC Kansas City captain Becky Sauerbrunn and midfielder Heather O’Reilly were among 25 players called into U.S. women’s national team camp for two friendlies against Japan next month.
They will depart Kansas City and join the national team in Denver on May 27. The Americans will play host to Japan on June 2 at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colo., before the two sides travel to Cleveland for a rematch on June 5 at FirstEnergy Stadium.
U.S. national team coach Jill Ellis will select 18 players to dress for the two matches.
“We are going with a slightly larger roster for this camp than the last few, so internally we can play in more (11 on 11) training scenarios,” Ellis said in a release. “My staff and I have been watching the league play, and now we get to evaluate them back together. Both environments are important.”
The U.S. is 11-0-0 in 2016, outscoring opponents 42-1.
