FC Kansas City’s Nicole Barnhart voted player of the month
After recording shutouts in all four of her June starts, FC Kansas City goalkeeper Nicole Barnhart has been selected as the Army National Guard Player of the Month by a pool of reporters who cover the National Women’s Soccer League.
Barnhart, who missed one match while she was with the U.S. Women’s National Team, made 12 saves in her four games with FC Kansas City, including a three-save performance against Portland Thorns FC on Saturday. The victory extended her shutout streak to five games and she has not allowed a goal in the last 495 minutes.
Barnhart, the 2013 NWSL Goalkeeper of the Year, has a league-best seven shutouts — three more than fellow national team member Hope Solo, who plays for the Seattle Reign.
Barnhart is the third Blues player to be voted ARNG Player of the Month. Lauren Holiday and Erika Tymrak earned the award last season.
