FC Kansas City looking to extend winning streak

Fresh off a commanding victory against the Houston Dash, FC Kansas City will look to extend its two-game win streak when it takes on the one team it has yet to defeat in National Women’s Soccer League play.

FC Kansas City faced the Western New York Flash twice last season with a loss and the team’s only scoreless draw. They will meet again tonight at 6 p.m. at Sahlen’s Stadium in Rochester. The game will be shows at FCKansasCity.com/Live-Feed.

FC Kansas City started the season with a draw and then lost the next two games, but it won the last two to even its record at 2-2-1. After scoring just one goal in each of the first four games, FC Kansas City exploded for four goals against the Dash while Nicole Barnhart recorded her second straight shutout.

“I’m very happy and pleased with all of the girls and the change in their mentality also with the way things have been working out,” coach Vlatko Andonovski said.

One big difference was the team’s ability to capitalize on its opportunities at the net. The team entered the game with just four goals in 32 shots on target and converted four of its 15 shots on goal in the victory.

FC Kansas City will face a new challenge, however, as they have to play without Becky Sauerbrunn, Lauren Holiday and Amy Rodriguez. They were all called to the U.S. Women’s National Team, which will face Canada on Thursday. Rodriguez is currently tied for the NWSL lead with four goals on the year.

Liz Bogus will also miss the game with a right hamstring strain, according to this week’s injury report.

Western New York will be playing with a depleted roster as well. Abby Wambach and Carli Lloyd will be playing for the United States and Samantha Kerr and Lydia Williams are on the Australian National Team.
