FC Kansas City trades draft pick, international player slot for LePeilbet

FC Kansas City announced a trade on Monday which sent a 2015 first-round draft pick and international player slot to the Chicago Red Stars in exchange for veteran defender Amy LePeilbet.

LePeilbet, who missed last season with an ACL injury, was a two-time All-American and three-time all-conference selection at Arizona State. She was selected fourth by the Boston Breakers in the 2008 Women’s Professional Soccer draft and became the only WPS player to be selected defender of the year in back-to-back seasons.

She was also has extensive international experience, which includes appearances in the 2012 London Summer Olympics and 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup as a member of the U.S. Women’s National Team.

“We are very excited to have Amy on board,” FC Kansas City coach Vlatko Andonovski said in a statment. “We put lots of time and effort into finding a defender who will make our already strong defense even better. Once she is ready to step on the field, with her knowledge and experience, she will make an immediate impact on our team.”

FC Kansas City will open its season at home against Sky Blue FC at 7 p.m. on April 12.
