FC Kansas City midfielder Desiree Scott transferred to English women’s team

A staple of FC Kansas City’s defensive prowess is headed overseas.

The National Women’s Soccer League announced Friday it has transferred Blues midfielder Desiree Scott to Notts County Ladies FC of The FA Women’s Super League in England. Terms of the transfer were not disclosed.

Scott, a defensive midfielder, started 20 games last summer for FC Kansas City, which allowed 22 goals, the second fewest in the league.

Because Scott is a allocated member of the Canadian national team, the league is responsible for her contract. But FC Kansas City will be awarded the full transfer fee.

“We are disappointed to lose a player of Desiree’s quality, but we wish her all the best with her knew club,” FC Kansas City coach Vlatko Andonovski said. “(I) know that our team is building a roster that can once again challenge for the league title.”

In addition to playing a key role in the FC Kansas City defensive midfield last season, Scott has appeared in 71 matches for the Canadian national team over the past four years.

Her departure leaves FC Kansas City without a Canadian national team member. The Houston Dash selected defender Lauren Sesselmann in last month’s expansion draft.
