Four FC Kansas City players who won Women’s World Cup to throw out first pitch at Royals game
The Royals will have four 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup champions on hand when they play host to the Baltimore Orioles at 7:10 p.m. Wednesday.
Lauren Holiday, Becky Sauerbrunn, Amy Rodriguez and Heather O’Reilly of FC Kansas City are scheduled to throw out the first pitch at Kauffman Stadium just more than a month and a half after winning the World Cup in Canada. The first three are also defending National Women’s Soccer League champions for the Blues, who secured a playoff spot for the third straight season this weekend.
FC Kansas City will play its final home game of the regular season at 7 p.m. Thursday against the Washington Spirit at Swope Soccer Village. Holiday, who is retiring after the conclusion of the NWSL season, will have her jersey retired before the game. She is a two-time Olympic gold medalist and is the reigning U.S. Soccer Female Athlete of the Year.
