The Kansas City Current women’s pro soccer team lost its fifth game of the season on Wednesday night at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles, falling 2-1 to Angel City.

The Current (5-0-5) never led. Angel City (4-1-4) got the eventual match-winner from Kennedy Fuller in the 70th minute. Angel City’s Gisele Thompson opened the scoring with a goal in the ninth minute of the National Women’s Soccer League match.

The Current answered late in the opening half, with a goal by Ally Sentnor in the 44th, but couldn’t break through for a second equalizer.

“I would say that the team put ourselves in a good spot,” KC head coach Chris Armas said, “and I’m proud of the way we came back from going down a goal.”

Current forward Temwa Chawinga entered Wednesday’s late-night showdown on the West Coast with five goals in KC’s last two matches, solidly in the Golden Boot race. She finished the 2024 season — her first in KC — with 20 goals and scored 15 in 2025.

Returning to the win column will be the Current’s focus this weekend, when a familiar foe arrives at CPKC Stadium for another tense NWSL showdown.

“We learn,” Armas said, “and these games that are tight, we have to find a way to sway the margins. Now we get back home and get ready for a quick turnaround on Sunday.”

Up next: For Kansas City, some home cooking. The Current plays host to the Portland Thorns at noon Sunday at CPKC Stadium.
