Now that she’s fully healthy and reintegrated into the lineup, the goals just seem to keep on coming for the reigning MVP of the National Women’s Soccer League.

Temwa Chawinga scored twice Friday night as the Kansas City Current shut out the visiting Houston Dash 3-0 at CPKC Stadium along the KC riverfront.

Chawinga was coming off a hat trick performance in the Current’s previous game: On Sunday at CPKC Stadium, the Current blanked the Chicago Stars 3-0.

The offense is clearly flowing for her now — not to mention the club — after offseason surgery for a hip adductor injury she suffered last October. She has now scored five goals in two games in the span of less than a week.

“On the inside of the locker room, the players are hungry. They’ve been that way all year long and now we’re getting some results,” said Current head coach Chris Armas. “It’s getting going and we all feel like there’s real momentum.

“And now it’s really important to try and build on that. ... It’s a good win for our team. We have a lot of work to do, but another shutout is good for the group.”

Chawinga’s Friday night strikes came in the 16th and 67th minutes. An own-goal charged to Dash keeper Jane Campbell accounted for the Current’s final tally.

The win extended the Current’s regular-season unbeaten streak at CPKC Stadium to 21 matches, tying the second-longest streak in NWSL history, per a team news release.

Up next: The Current hits the road Wednesday for a midweek NWSL match at Angel City in L.A. That one starts at 9 p.m. Central Time. Then it’s back home to play host to the Portland Thorns at noon on Sunday, May 24.
