The Kansas City Current seems unstoppable at the moment.

A 2-0 win over Bay FC on Saturday night, thanks to goals from Michelle Cooper and Temwa Chawinga, saw KC extend its record clean-sheet streak to seven games.

Laurel Ivory was the goalkeeper who claimed the clean sheet for KC on Saturday night, as Lorena appeared on the injury report late in the week with a knee ailment. Ivory only had to make one save to do it.

The win pushes the Current to 16-2-1, matching the team’s win total from 2024. There are seven games left in the 2025 regular season.

The win was also the 100th NWSL victory for head coach Vlatko Andonovski. He is the second coach in NWSL history to meet that milestone. Seattle’s Laura Harvey is the other.

“The 100th win … it’s nice,” Andonovksi said postgame. “But it’s something that, personally, I don’t think much of it. Having this one be our 16th this season means a lot more than anything else. Hopefully, we can string a couple more wins here and solidify home field advantage.”

The Current was on the front foot all game Saturday. The scoreline could’ve been much larger if the team had been more clinical, but it got the goals it needed.

“I thought in the first half we were incredible,” Andonovski said. “It was probably one of the better performances, especially away, that we had. We just didn’t capitalize on it. We created four or five clear-cut chances.”

It took nearly 45 minutes for the Current to eventually find a breakthrough.

To open the scoring, Cooper ripped a left-footed shot into the bottom corner of Bay FC goalkeeper Jordan Silkowitz’s near post.

“Going the far (post) angle was tough just because they had so many people in the box,” Cooper said. “The center back and outside back kind of took away that angle for me. So I knew my best chance was going near post.”

Silkowitz, the former KC Current goalkeeper, was traded to Bay FC for Kayla Sharples last August. Silkowitz did well to keep it a 1-0 scoreline — making seven saves — until second-half stoppage time.

That’s when the inevitability of Chawinga won out. She picked up the ball from inside the halfway line and dribbled past the remainder of the Bay FC defenders before chipping a shot past Silkowitz.

It’s not the first time Chawinga has iced or won a game in the dying seconds. Hailie Mace, who picked up an assist on Cooper’s first-half goal, described the moment postgame.

“Getting that second goal just takes a lot of pressure off us,” Mace said. “She deserves every bit of that goal. She works super hard every day and she tries so hard to get those goals.”
