Check out these new renderings of the Kansas City Current’s planned riverfront stadium

The Kansas City Current’s planned move into a new stadium would make it the first National Women’s Soccer League team to have its own home facility.

New renderings released by the team this week show the Current plans to set the bar high for other NWSL teams that may one day build their own stadium.

The projected 11,500-seat stadium along Berkley Riverfront park would open in time for for the 2024 season and cost $117 million. The team originally said it would finance the entire cost of the stadium but has since asked for $6 million in state tax incentives after adding $47 million in costs and another 500 seats to its plan.

The Current said it has a 50-year lease agreement with Port KC, and the stadium will be built on a 7.08-acre site on the east end of the park, which is along the Missouri River.

“Elite facilities are an essential part of the future for this team,” team president Allison Howard said in a news release. “Our new stadium will be an incredible place for athletes to compete at their highest level and the additional amenities will ensure that Kansas City fans have an experience worthy of the passion they bring to every match.”
