Kansas City Current will wear new primary jerseys at regular-season home opener Sunday
The Kansas City Current will be debuting a new look at Sunday’s regular-season home opener against the Houston Dash.
The club on Friday revealed its primary jersey for the 2022 National Women’s Soccer League season: the Heartland Kit. A “kit” is soccer terminology for a player’s uniform, especially the jersey.
“It’s incredibly exciting to share the Heartland kits with our fans,” said Current co-owner Brittany Mahomes. “After being a part of developing the Current brand and crest last season, incorporating those elements into our kits was such a meaningful project.”
The bright red top is a Nike custom kit accented with the three “currents” that appear in the team crest. The currents represent the team’s players and fans and the Kansas City community.
The newly added kit will be worn with matching red shorts and the club’s signature teal socks.
“Every detail represents a special element of what our club and players stand for,” Mahomes said. “From the bold red currents across the front to the teal accents, they tell the story of what we are building in Kansas City.”
The club released its secondary kit, the Electric Kit, a week ago: an all-white look with teal rising from the corners into the center, worn with teal socks.
Both kits are available for purchase at shop.kansascity.current.com. Fans will also be able to purchase them during KC Current home matches at Children’s Mercy Park beginning Sunday, when the Current play host to the Houston Dash at 4 p.m., and at the club’s mobile merchandise unit, the Teal Mobile.
The Current are looking to bounce back from Wednesday’s disappointing home loss to the North Carolina Courage in the NWSL Challenge Cup semifinals. This will be the Current’s third match against the Dash since the start of the NWSL Challenge Cup in March. The Current won both previous matches, 3-0 and 2-1.
