After booking their place in the Challenge Cup semifinals, the Kansas City Current begin their regular-season NWSL campaign on Saturday at the Portland Thorns.

And they’ll be doing so wearing a new-look jersey.

The Current unveiled their “Electric” secondary jersey for the 2022 NWSL season on Tuesday.

The white jersey is accented by “teal rising” from the top left and the bottom right corners and red accents down the sides. The kit is completed with white shorts and the club’s signature teal socks. As with all other jerseys across the NWSL, it will also feature a silver badge commemorating the women’s pro soccer league’s 10th anniversary.

“I am proud and honored to represent Kansas City,” said Current defender Kristen Edmonds. “This community has embraced our team since day one, and every time I step on the field, I know I am playing for something bigger than myself. We are building something special here and continuing to raise the bar and set new standards.”

Club sponsors Saint Luke’s Health System and Palmer Square Capital Management appear on the jersey’s front and back, respectively, with a Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas City logo on the right sleeve.

“Our new kit tells a story of where we are headed, from the bold red accents to the teal rising up the sides,” Edmonds said. “I couldn’t be more excited to represent this city, this crest and everything this club stands for.”

The jersey was created locally by Willoughby Design, a Kansas City firm led by owners Nicole Satterwhite and Megan Stephens. In business since 1978, Willoughby bills itself as the longest continuously running women-owned brand-design firm in the U.S. Willoughby also designed the team’s inaugural and permanent crests.

The Electric kit is available for purchase in youth and adult sizes at shop.kansascitycurrent.com. The new kit will also be sold at Current home games at Children’s Mercy Park, starting with the regular-season home opener on May 8, and via the “Teal Mobile” mobile merchandise truck at select community events.

The Current play the Thorns on Saturday at 5 p.m. Central Time on Paramount+. They’ll return home for the NWSL Challenge Cup semifinals on Wednesday, May 4, with kickoff at 7:30 p.m.
