Want to see some women’s pro soccer in KC? Here’s the NWSL’s season schedule for ’21
The National Women’s Soccer League is still in the thick of the 2021 Challenge Cup, but that didn’t stop the NWSL from releasing its 2021 regular-season schedule Tuesday.
Kansas City NWSL has picked up one point in three games, but the club can look forward to a fresh start as soon as May 15 with the start of the regular season.
Kansas City will open the regular season with a road trip to the league’s other 2021 expansion side, Racing Louisville, on May 15 at 4 p.m. Central Time.
The club will return home for its inaugural regular-season opener May 26 in a rematch with the Chicago Red Stars. KC tied Chicago 1-1 April 21 to collect the first point in franchise history.
Every team in the league will play 24 games over the course of the season — 12 at home and 12 on the road.
Each NWSL team will travel to and welcome every other team at least once during the course of the season. To fill out their respective 24-game schedules, some teams will play multiple road games in one city while also hosting a team more than once.
For KC NWSL, that means two trips to Chicago, Portland and Louisville. Additionally, KC will welcome the Houston Dash, North Carolina Courage and OL Reign on two separate occasions to Legends Field in Kansas City, Kan.
A home game against the Reign on Oct. 30 will signal the end of the regular season, with the top six teams in the league qualifying for the playoffs. The top two seeds will earn byes through the first round.
The season will conclude with the 2021 NWSL Championship Game on Nov. 20.
