Former Blues winger beats old team as FC Kansas City loses 1-0 at Boston
The first player ever chosen by FC Kansas City in the initial National Women’s Soccer League’s college draft in 2013 scored the lone goal in the Blues’ game Saturday at the Boston Breakers.
Unfortunately for FCKC, Kristie Mewis no longer plays for the team.
Mewis, the third overall pick in that first NWSL draft, scored in the 51st minute off an assist by Katie Schoepfer and helped Boston beat FC Kansas City 1-0.
After playing for the Blues in the 2013 season, Mewis was traded to Seattle for Amy Rodriguez. Mewis later was dealt to the Breakers.
FC Kansas City, 3-4-1, is winless in its last three games (0-2-1). It was FCKC’s last match before the two-week break during the Women’s World Cup’s group stage in Canada.
The Blues will next take the field on June 19 when they travel to Portland to face the Thorns. FC Kansas City’s next home match is July 3 against Washington.
